LIVING IN THE PRESENT

Heather Keating – Ministry Team Member

January 14, 2024

“You’re dwelling in the past, worrying about the future, and missing out on living in the present.” (The Lord said this to me.)

The enemy wants to keep us occupied in the past and the future so we are not available in the present. We can’t change past disappointments, smashed dreams, wrong decisions.

We need to leave the future in in His hands, to trust Him with our tomorrows.

If we make the choice to leave the past in the past, trust Him with the future, we will find ourselves living in the present, to listen to His voice for guidance in the present.

The battlefield really is in the mind, you can’t battle the past, or predict the future. You need to learn to stay in the present being led by the Holy Spirit, reading, and studying the word of God, praying.

He is interested in the little things as well as the big things, He wants us to allow Him to direct our path. To walk with Him. He is never too busy for us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;6. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths,” in our present and in our joy filled future.

Action has to happen on our part - trust, acknowledge Him and leave the door open for Him to direct our path.

When we are in a storm, we are not alone, we can stay in the boat with Him.  Doesn’t matter how rocky things get, we can stay connected to Him, He will be our peace, He will take care of us.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

This is a process to train our mind when it starts to wonder about our current thoughts. Be on guard for this!

When He gave me the statement I gave you at the beginning, it was a wake-up call for me. If the enemy can keep us distracted with the past and future, he has taken us out of commission.

I can tell you it has been a journey that has been well worth taking. Through the little storms and the giant ones, I have grown, learned to trust Him more, and allow Him to direct my future. To be at peace in the storm is possible when He is holding your hand and your focus is on Him and not the storm.
